Automated Kanban

Kanban – a simple signal methodology powered by Re-Stock Tag & NFC cloud solution to improve supply management

Millions of low value, high access items are consumed daily at many large manufacturing sites. These low-cost items include screws, nuts, bolts, power pliers and more. Production floor employees are normally pressed for time and need to quickly grab an item and get back to the production line or R&D lab.

The LogiTag Kanban solutions line provides materials managers with a simple, highly efficient method to automate inventory management and reordering of supplies in any manufacturing setting. The solution combines a two-bin lean Kanban configuration with advanced RFID technology and proprietary cloud-based software to collect reordering information from RFID-enabled stock cards, to run regular restocking reports, or to send automated restocking requests as they occur to the ERP systems.

Automated Kanban – how it works?

  • Items are used as needed. When the quantity in the primary bin is depleted, the item has reached its restocking point. The employee presses the Restock Me button on the RestockTag.
  • Pressing the Restock Me button on the ReStock tag triggers an electronic notification – including the item quantity and location – to the materials manager or team.
  • When restocking is in process, there is enough stock in the secondary bin for routine use. (Items in the secondary bin are moved to a primary bin.) Items are picked in central supply, distributed, and restocked as required. New stock is placed in the secondary bin.
  • The materials management team replenishes the bin and presses the Restock button to report that replenishment has been completed.
  • When replenishment has been reported on the bin, a wireless notification is sent to the cloud server and the information is updated on the Restock Tag.

Restock Tag

Restock Tag is a simple reorder tag with an EPD-based display that includes the product description, order level and a simple, visual, order status notification.

Utilizing RFID technology, the Restock Tag presents on-screen SKU information, provides an easy method to trigger an order with a push of a button, can be updated remotely with order status information, and enables refill confirmation.

The Restock Tag combines a two-bin lean Kanban configuration with advanced RFID technology and proprietary cloud-based software to collect reordering information from RFID-enabled tags, to run regular restocking reports, or to send automated restocking requests as they occur to the ERP systems.
